The slates on this roof were damaged from snow and ice. Repairs were not performed before the spring rain, which caused significant amounts of interior damage. Notice, the improper repair using a copper slip bent over the front of the slate. What happens then? The snow slides down, the copper slip opens up, the slate slides out, and your leak is back.

The photo seen here shows a wear hole. Even though this particular wear hole isn’t critical, how long will it be before other areas have worn through.

The lack of a sufficient snow guard system presents hazards to pedestrians, gutter damage, and pets. Plumbing vents are often swept off of the slate roof, which can cause interior leaks.

Notice, the obvious sources of water entry which are 70 ft. up on this steeple (photos above and below). The slates were removed and new flashings were installed to prevent continued interior water entry.

The steeple seen above, was carefully scraped, sanded, and painted. The deteriorated crown molding was replaced to match the existing.
